32nd National Veterans Wheelchair Games

Richmond, VA
June 25 -30, 2012

The National Veterans Wheelchair Games is the largest wheelchair sports competition in the world, hosting more than 500 novice and experienced athletes. The games promote rehabilitation through rigorous competition in such events as basketball, rugby, softball, archery, swimming, and handcycling.

While past Games have produced national and world-class champions, the Games also provide opportunities for newly disabled Veterans to gain sports skills and be exposed to other wheelchair athletes. Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Department of Veterans Affairs have co-presented the Games since 1985.
For more information please contact Doug Beckley at the National Veterans Wheelchair Games at (202) 416-7775 or by email Douglasb@pva.org  or  local chairperson Alison Faulk at (803) 675-5265 or email alison.faulk@va.gov.

The Columbia wheelchair basketball team has begun practice for this season and is in need of additional players. This is a great way to meet others and get some exercise that is a lot of fun.

You do not have to have any experience to play but must have a physical disability. Sports chairs and jerseys are provided for team players. Players must be 16 years old or older in order to officially play on the team as part of the NWBA. The team is practicing at Greenview Park on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.

Contact Coach Johna Sutton at (803) 760-2617 for more information or to register.

turkey shoot

We would like to congratulate Tyler West for taking his first turkey this March. Tyler, 12, was accompanied by his father Oliver. Oliver is a member of the SC Spinal Cord Injury Midlands Peer Support Group. Both Tyler and Oliver have participated in FUN 4 ALL events in the past. Thanks to Carl and the Whitetail Hunting Club for graciously permitting hunting their lands.
